Question by : How do I ground my aquarium plants?
My plants keep dying because they uproot during water changes. Should I use a substrate underneath the gravel specifically for plants? Should I use some wire? Surprisingly enough, I cannot seem to find useful information on the internet for this stuff. I would also like to know what to do for grounding moss in the aquarium.

Lighting is more important. Get a decent T8 light of atleast 6700k, higher is better. 10,000k may be overkill. 8500k ish seems to work well for me.
I also use Seachem Flourish. I prefer Seachem prime and flourish in my tank because a small bottle treats a lot of water, don't be scared by the price. Something $ 3 cheaper might require 3-5 bottles to last as long as 1 bottle of Seachem.
If you want to get really serious about plants you will also want to look into bubbling Co2. Do not buy a kit from the pet store, they are expensive and refills are costly. There are do it yourself options that use some store product, but use larger refillable tanks that cost maybe 20-25 bucks a year to run.
I don't use Co2, but I do use quality lights and Seachem Flourish and my plants are beautiful.
I have Java Fern x1, Swords x2, Moneywort x2 and 3 moss balls. I had Hornwort, but it was too much of a struggle to keep rooted and alive.
Good Luck!
