It depends on the kit, but usually they don't. Most will come with a filter and hood with light. DO NOT rely on the light for heat--when you turn it off at night, temperatures will drop quickly and drastically because smaller tanks do not hold heat well. Plus, a light bulb is a very unreliable source of heat anyways. Get a mini heater instead, and you may need to get a different bulb that doesn't emit as much heat--I know a lot of the kits come with really cheap bulbs that overheat your water. Also, if the kit comes with an under-gravel filter, convert it to a sponge filter by replacing the plate with an aquarium sponge--they are much more reliable than ugfs.
